MILITARY SERVICE.
" A DESERTER ARRESTED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Michael Hunt, a farmer, residing at Lawrence, has been apprehended as a deserter under Section 12 of the Military Service Act. He was a Section 33 man, and will be sent to Trentham camp under military escort. AN ALIEN'S APPEAL ALLOWED. Auckland, Last Night. An unusual case came before the Military Board to-day. August F. Weniger, of New Lynn, applied for exemption on the ground that he" was an engineer engaged on mailboats, and that lie was not a naturalised British subject. Appellant stated that he was born in London, his father having been born in France of a French mother and a Swiss father. His mother was a Belgian, and his parents had been in New Zealand about 11 years, and neither they noi appellant had been naturalised. He had never been allowed to vote; had never regarded himself as a British subject and had not attempted to become natu ralised. He would probably not have bothered about making an appeal but for the sake of his mother, who was not strong. ' The Board considered that on the evidence appellant must be considered as an alien subject, and the appeal was upheld.
