MEN FOR FIRING LINE.
SHORTAGES PROCEED TO CAMP.
The people of Jfew Plym\,-u«i are appreciative of the spirit tint actuates the men who are making sacrifices in going forward to fight for them, but .do not always publicly manifest' this appreciation. There was, however, over a hundred citizens present on the railway station yesterday morning to farewell seven recruits who were proceeding to camp to make up the shortages in the 20th Reinforcements. They were each made recipients of a gift parcel by tha Women's Patriotic League and were entertained and given refreshments by the League. Addressing the men before they entrained, the Mayor (Mr. 0. H. Burgess) said the recruits were making]sacrifices' in going forward as soldiers, and people should recognise this. He felt sure they would acquit themselves as well a? those who had gone before them. The Mayor said a fortnight ago he appealed to'so young people to contribute one shilling per week towards the upkeep of the Soldiers' Club. The result was scandalous. Only two young ladies had come forward and had undertaken to give a shilling a week each. Tho young men and women ,of the town and district had plenty of money, and yet they were doing nothing in the cause of patriotism.
