FIRES.
DAMAGE AT TIMBER MHi. By Telegraph.—Press Association.
Dargaville, Feb. 20. At 12.45 last night the firebell sounded the alarm and it was found that Woolsey Allen's mill was ablaze. When the brigade reached the scene the buildings and a large stock of timber wow a mass of flames, and there was no chance of saving anything. Anderson's mill, which is contiguous, was also in danger, but luckily the wind was blowing in the right quarter and there was a plentiful supply water. The heroic efforts of the brigade prevented the fire spreading. Anderson lost 500,000 feet of timber, part of which was being loaded on the barque Margta. Allen's insurances were £1900; Anderson's insurances are not known.
