(By "Moturoa"). On Thursday and Saturday the Wanganui Jockey Club's autumn meeting will (nice place. The Wanganui Trotting Clubs annual meeting will be heia on Friday and Mouday, • niaUing a four days' racing carnival. Visitors liave r.lreudy arrived from Auckland, Canterbury, Wellington. Hawke's Bay and other centres, and there should be a bi'< gathering of sporting folk at Wanganui this week. The outsiders already on the scene include Bimeter and Greeni.lreet (who were brought down after racing at New Plymouth), Thames, Colonel Soult, Bunting, Form Up} Housevile, Thrace, Agnostcs and lfockfield. Acceptances for the first day dosed last night. /
Crowlmrst was scratched on Saturday for the Jackson Stakes. Rang Awa was withdrawn from the Flying Handicap, and Astrophel from (he Juvenile Handicap, both at 12.10 p.m. The tracks are in good order, but nothing of a sensational nature has been recorded. Bunting looks very fit, but Colonel Soult, although he galloped on Saturday morning, hardly looks as <it as he did this time last year. Master Lupin looks in great heart, and Housewife appears to be none the worse for her efforts at New Plymouth and Woodville.
It is reported that Deeley will be on Depredation in the Cup. and if Egypt does not go to the post the Taranaki horse promises t 0 start favorite. Jr Mr T. H. f.owry i.< not represented in the race O'Shca will probably rido Rangitero.
Bimeter is galloping in great style, making Greenstreet look a common hack. Thames, who was brought up fiom the South last week, is looking fit. and may run, well at the meeting. Mr William Hffll has not suflicioiitl., recovered to be able to undertake the eecretarial duties in connection with thq Wanganui Jockey Club meeting, but his "right hand man"—Mr Don Robbins—can be depended upon to attend to everything satisfactorily. Mr Robbins has had years of experience, and knows the routine work from start to finish.
First rate acceptances have beer, received for the opening day of the Watiganui Trotting Club's meeting, and a good number of Taranaki horses figure on the lists. The meeting will be held on the Wanganui J. C. course, the Trotling Club's new track at Eastown not being ready yet.
The Bar Vons have been getting a Imrt shako up lately in doubles. Egypt and Tete-a-tete at Ha\vrra;_ Toatcre and Housewife at New Plymouth; and Housewife and Form Up' at Woodville were all backed combinations, and the layers ai'o drawing in their homa now at the more whisper of Depreda-tion-Form Up. Mr I). Campion has disposed of the pi
iromishig hurdler Record, who will in future; race in the nomination of Mr Fred Moore (Wangai.ui). The Opimake Racing Club's annual meeting, which is set down for Saturday, March 17, Is one that should commend' itsolf to horse owners and trainers. The stakes are offered on a liberal scale, the Cup being worth 200 sovs, and the prizes in the other events running from 100 soys to 150 sovs. Mr Geo. Morse will attend, to the handicapping, and Mr \ r oung (judge) will be in their accustomed places. The detailed programme will be. found in this "ssne, and those interested should note that entries close on Thursday. February 22 at 5 p.m. Further details mav be obtained from the secretary, Mr P. S. Riley, Pihama.
Form Up carried 8.11 when ho led Ihe field home In the Telephone Handicap at Woodville, and won handsomely. Sonic accounts of the race state that lie led all the way, which is incorrect. Shiela and Tyson made most of the pace, but the favorite left them standing when Riven his head a hundred yards from home.
Lady Middleton won a double 'Sit Woodville in good style, but few wera prepared for the wonderful "price" she paid, on Thursday. Coldstream wa-i considered something in the nature ot a ''moral," but Hie good thing was doiv like a dinner at the distance, and Middleton, finishing strongly, won with case. Probably the longer distance was responsible for the position in the betting. Her owners held nineteen of the eighty-eight tickets on the tote against Tftr name. A nice win, indeed! Grey Guard was rather lucky to get the decision over Paramahone on the first dav, most people considering that the Aueklander had won. However, Pa rnmahone did- not waste so much time at the fences on the second day, and won very easily. Parisian Diamond (Charlemagne HHope Diamond) has been in the boom for some time, and given a run at Woodville. proved to be aH that the wi-ie heads said. Some sparkler, this fellow!
