MORE MEN WANTED.
FOR CRITICAL PERIOD OF WAR. London, Feb. 18. Lord Derby, speaking at Bolton, said the war would be long and even moro bitter than' hitherto. Three things were necessary to victory and iie would enumerate them in the order—money, men, munitions. People had given money, and munitions were being supplied, but men were wanted and must be had. It pleased us to hear that Germany was at her last gasp, but, though Ger- . many was suffering in a manner we hardly realised, she had an enormous reserve of power and would make a gigantic effort to secure the supremacy of the sea. The critical period of the war would be the next six months, but meantime many moro restrictions on liberty and many more privations must be borne. Success depended as much on the people as on the men in, the field. INDUSTRIAL CONTRIBUTORS TO WAR LOAN. London, Feb. IS. A feature of the loan is the huge contributions of new money by the great Industrial centres. It is estimated that Glasgow has subscribed 100 millions, Birmingham 30 millions, Nowacstlo IS millions, Beliavt 15 millions, and Hull 13 millions. It is estimated that there arc about live million industrial contributors. Received Feb. 10, 5.5 p.m. London, Feb. 18. Cardiff subscribed thirty millions to Hie war loan, Bradford eleven and three quarters and Bristol ten millions. FOOD CONTROLLER London, Feb. 18. The 'President of the Board of Agriculture has appointed Mr. Arthur Lee, M.P., Director-General of Food 'Production. ROYALTY ENTERTAINS WOUNDED. London, Feb. 18. The King and Queen from time to time entertain overseas wounded.
