The death is reported from Waverlcy of Mr James Walker, an old ecttler, at klie age of 70 years. Mr. Harry Cole, of Veale road, has received word that his son, Sergeant Leslie Cole, who was severely wounded some time ago, is on Ms way home. Mr. 'Percy Jackson, of the Wairoa (Hamke's Buy) branch, has been appointed manager of the Union Bank of Australia, New Plymouth, in succession to Mj\ Geo. Coghill, who is about to go into camp.

Jn response to several requests, Mr Percy J. IT. White has decided to become a candidate for the vacant seat on the Education Board.

After being twice rejected as medically unfit, Mr Peter lJutton, formerly oally unfit, Mr Peter Button was passed to go into camp in May. Mr. David E. Button has resigned his position as art master at the New Plymouth Boys' and Girls' High Schools, owing to his leaving New Plymouth. At last night's meeting of the High School l3oard it was decided to leave the appointment of a successor to the principals of the schools.

On Saturday afternoon there was a gathering at Messrs Smart Brothers' workshop to farewell a member of the stall', Mr W. J. McKenzie, prior to his leaving for camp. On behalf of the employees and the firm, Mr Ewing presented Mr McKenzie with a set of toilet articles and wished hira a safe return.
