In order to restrict expenditure on amusements, a regulation prohibits ihe erection or alteration of buildings used for amusement purposes without the consent of the Treasurer. A LONDON FIRE. London, Feb. IS. A big fire in Salisbury Square damaged Ward Lock & Co.'s publishing warehouse, and more seriously the adjoining buildings. HURRICANE IN NEW CALEDONIA. Brisbane, Feb. 19. News has been received from the cable office at Gomen that New Caledonia was visited by a devastating hurricane. At Onaco most of the houses were demolished. The cable station at Gomen was destroyed, but the instruments were fitted in the open air. So far there has been no loss of lite.
