WEALTH OF TARANAKI.

EXPORTS EQUAL TO £55 PER HEAD The remarkable productivity of Taranaki is demonstrated by the figures showing the exports for the province during last year. The export? from the three ports, New Plymouth, Patea and Waitara, amounted in value to ' £2,981,447, towards which New Plymouth contributed £1,235,0(13, Patea £1,205,287, and Waitara £540,197. Tarnnaki's population is 50,847, so that its exports on this basis are equal to a little over £55 per head. These figures do not take into account the cattle, sheep, hides and wool sent by road and rail to Wanganui and Wellington, nor are they affected by the amount of dairy produce that, owing to shipping troubles, had to be sent on by rail from Patea to Wellington. These exports are a record for the world. The exports for New Zealand last year amounted to £33,000,000, or about £32 per head of population.

Taranaki land, which has only been scratched so far, could easily support a million people.
