AUSTRALIAN POLITICS. A'jstr&Kan-N.Z. Cable Association Sydney, Feb. 16. Mr. Holmnn, in his speech at Gundagai, said that probably within a week or ten days he would announce a dissolution. He would abolish the second ballot, replacing it by a system of preferential voting or proportional representation. Melbourne, Feb. 16. The new Federal policy includes a provision that the people's conscription decision is to be respected, preference to returned soldiers is to be made a provision of all Government contracts, and sanction given to tlie present tariff, tlie whole question of tariff revision to be considered at the earliest possible opportunity.
