AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY.

NEW SHOW GROUNDS. A busy scene may be witnessed on the Taranaki Agricultural Society's new showgrounds at Waiwakaiho, where a staff of carpenters and other artisans are working at high pressure in order to complete the pens a.nd buildings now in course of erection in time for the autumn show, which takes place on February 2S and March 1. The grounds are situated about half-a-mile from the Fitzroy tram terminus, accessible by a good metalled road, and are within easy distance of the Smart road railway station. They are surrounded by level country, which provides excellent grazing, and comprise an area of seven acres. In the centre of the grounds is a flat grassy oval, having a length of seven chains and a width of five chains. Commanding an excellent view of the grounds is a fine ferro-concrete grandstand, standing 28ft hig!h, and having seating accommodation for 050 people. Underneath the stand is a large diningroom. with ft kitchen and ladies' cloakroom adjoining. The concrete portion of the stand is completed, and men are engaged in building the terraces and seats. To Hie right of the grandstand the judge's l>ox will .be situated, while in the right-hand corner of the grounds the covered-in cattle pens are arranged. Here arc 100 permanently-built peris, 30 stalls for fat cattle, and* stalls for tlhc milking cows, covering an urea ]3oft by !>oft/. A third of this area will .be roofed this month, and the remainder will bo covered at a later date. Some distance away are the loose horse-boxes, ample room being provided for all tlie animals tlmt are likely to be exhibited. Tine hurdles for 189 sheep jiens are on the ground, and will be placed in position as soon as they are required. Filtered water, from the town supply, lias been laid on to the grounds, and concrete drinking troughs have been placed at various suita.be points. All the necessary conveniences have been provided. The grounds lend themselves to and improvement, and in a few years should be one of the most attractive features of the town.
