DISLOYAL UTTERANCES.
A SHIRKER FINED. By Telegraph.—Press Association, Auckland, Lp.;t Nigfbt. Chief-Detective McMahon stated that Baldwin made no response to a telegram from the Defence Department, informing him that he lind bian drawn in the ballot, and calling on him to submit himself for medical examination, consequently a constable went to his camp to bring !hini in for examination, and Baldwin made use of disloyal language, stating that he "would bo n. fool to go tp the front, and tliey wore" all fools that went to the front." Accused liad a brother at the front, and wis himself a single man. Ho bad been living oil the gum-fields for years. Baldwin said that be was angry at the time, but immediately afterwards was sorry for what Tie bad said. 'His Worship stated that the caso was dillerent fromi the usual charges of tbo kind, 111 that there was no question ot an endeavor to influence other .people. The lagnuage might bo looked on more as a form of profanity than a real expression of disloyalty. The punishment would not be made more than sufficient to act as a warning. Baldwin was fined £5.
