Stratford, Feb. 13. A man named Ilarry Bninsden was arrested at Bird Koad by Constable Tizard He figured us defendant on a charge o!' publishing a false wedding notice in the Daily Xe,ws. For that offence he was fined a sum that, with costs, abrogated £l3 Ss, in default one month's imprisonment. Brunsden failed to "antelip" the Court costs, so an unsympathetic constable took him to quarters in New Plymouth gaol on Tuesday. The Wounded Soldiers Funds now total £8754 13s 9d. The Stratford Rating Club sent along the useful contribution of £.it!fi 12s (3d—Red Cross £25. Serbians £."O, nwl general funds of Patriotic Committee £4GI 12s Cd. The Toko Kail was well tilled last, night, when a farewell social was tendered to E. Burgbam, another of Toko's sons battle for the Empire., In the absence of Mr. W. H. Were, who is in Wellington, the presentation (wliich took the form of a wristlet watch) was made by Mr. Gernhoefer. The speaker referred to the sterling qualities of Mr. Burgham, as one ever ready to do his best for the little town, and trusted he would return safe and sound after doing his share with liis comrades who had gone ahead. The recipient suitably acknowledged the gift and thanked the residents for their generous hospitality. "Miss Payne delighted the audience with three fine songs, whilst Mr. C. H.
