«!>- i NORTH TARANAKI CENTRE. A meeting of the North Taranaki Head Centre of the Royal Life-Saving Society was. held last evening, Mr. D. .J. Hughes presiding over a good attendance. DEMONSTRATIONS IN COUNTRY. An invitation was received from the secretary of the Waitui School Committer asking a team to visit the school and give a demonstration in life-saving. The chairman said the main difficulty wan to get a team. Owing to the shortage of labor and the depletion in the membership duo to the war, the Centre cculd not guarantee to visit the country places, much as it would like to. Mr. A. N. Christiansen assured the meeting that a team would make any visits to the country, provided the date:were arranged. The chairman expressed satisfaction on hearing this, and trusted the country schools would avail themselves of the Centre's oiler. Misses E. While, .1, Mclsaacs, and Messrs N. A. Christiansen and P A. Schwartz were appointed instructors to I visit country schools. j LIFE-SAVING EXAMINATIONS. ■ Certificates were granted as follows, as (lie result of the recent life-saving examinations held in the Municipal Baths:— Elementary: Florence. E. Evans, Dora A. Ileal, Joan Cooke, Aileen Jenkins, Zeta Braund, Rita Ilempton, Leila A. Ilurle, Charles E. Hagenson, Clarence R. Hill, Charles S. Wood, Edward 11. Golding, lan Mcllardy, Douglas F. Ballantyne, Leon K. Allen, Charles Collins, Thomas Logie. Proficiency: Florence K. Evans, Dora A. Heal, Leila A. Hurle, Joan Cooke, Aileen Jenkins, Zeta Braund, and Rita Ilempton. Bronze Medallions: Florence E. Evans, Dora A. Heal, Leila A. Hurle, Joan Cooke, and Aileen Jenkins. REEL AT NGAMOTU. The secretary (Mr. P. A. Schwartz) reported that he visited Ngamolu beach one day recently and found that the reel which the Society had placed on the beach was nowhere in sight, and he ■ was unable to find it for a considerable 1 time.
Mr. Christiansen supported this statement, and said that it was absolutely essential that the reel should be in readiness at a moments' notice night and day. He suggested that the reel bo removed to Fitzroy. Mr. W. J. Walker said that since the ret cut accident at Fitzrov, had fallen oil considerably. A greater sense of safety would be given if a reel were placed there. Mr. Walker referred to the interest manifested by the Fitzroy people, in swimming and life-saving. Mr. S. G. Smith said the Fitzroy people had shown wonderful keenness, and they should be encouraged. If the Xgamotu pec-pie wanted to show their keenness they should form a life-saving club, subscribe, and place another reel at Xgamotu.
The chairman supported the suggestion, and said another reel should certainly be placed at Xgamotu. He hoped that steps would be taken to acquire another reel. The meeting resolved to remove the reel from Xgamotu to Fitzroy. NEW MEMBERS. The following new members were clecttd:— Messrs J. Burton, A. G. Walsh, S. Fcavcr, E. I-I. Thorpe, 0. A. Million, A. E. Brunette, G. Hammond, W. Blyth, E Marshall, S. M. Cornish, F. .). Mildenhall, W. L. F. Chambers, C. Malcolm, 1). M:a'kham, and Rev. R. B. Gosnell, of Opunake. / GENERAL. Mr. W. ,T. Walker was welcomed as the Fit/.rov Improvement Committee's delegate to the Centre. A letter of appreciation was received from the Fitzroy Improvement Committee for the excellent demonstration given by the Centre's team on January 28. It was stated that steps were being taken to form a team at Fitzroy. Affiliation was granted to Fitzroy. The Centre was gran ted permission to fill the municipal baths with fresh water on the occasion of the Centre's competitions. Messrs P. A. Schwartz and X. A. Christiansen were appointed swimming and life-saving instructors to the Central School.
Kxaminors wore appointed fov one examination for a diploma, two examinations for awards of merit, and examinations fov four classes.
