'Private L. P. C. Taylor, of New Plyiiioiitli, who is in hospital in England, is reported to tie seriously ill. Ifr. TV. R. Billing, solicitor, who has been ill for some time, is sufficiently recovered to resume practice. Among those drawn in the last ballot is the Rev. H. A. Favell, vicar of Holy Trinity, Te Henui. A London cable announces that the Duke of Connaught lias been appointed Colonel-in-Chicf of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade. Mr. Joseph Eatoek, an old and respected settler of the Rnhotu and Opunake districts, -died very suddenly on Thursday morning last. Deceased, who was oli years of age, dropped dead near his resilience, Kahui Bond. He leaves' n widow and grown-up family of three, who have the sympathy of the district in their sad bereavement.
