THE TYPOGRAPHICAL DISPUTE
AN AGREEMENT REACHED. By Telegraph.—Press Assrciation. Wellington, February 11. After sitting from 10 a.m. on' Saturday to 1.30 a.m. on Sunday, the conference of Dominion representatives completed a full settlement of all points in the typographical dispute. The wages of linotype newspapers .and time operators are to be increased by a war bonus of 10 per cent, on the minimum wage, subject to the output of 7500 ens, other operators and band workers to receive a war bonus of five shillings weekly on the minimum wage. 'Die restrictions on apprentices-and probationers learning machines are removed, and the proportion of machine apprentices increased, Women 'workers at present employed are exempted from the award. Piece rates to be: On solid only, 3Jd up to 0 point, !i'/»d up to 8 point, 3%d for I) point, and Id for 10 point. The population division in the band section has been altered from 254)6 tn 5000, the latter to include the whole industrial district of YVcstland. Overtime in both sections is to be time and a-third,'but in the hand section it is to be double after three hours. Preference is granted to employers as well as to men. Invalided and returned soldiers partially disabled are added to the under-rate workers. An excellent, feeling was displayed on both sides, and the conference closed with mutual expressions of good-will.
