'A cable from Lonodn states that thft Duke of Norfolk is seriously ill, Mr. David E. Button, N.8.A., A.N.Z. 1.A., is shortly leaving New Plymouth, where ho has resided during the past seven years. He intends to go to Christ" church, where he may settle. The Rev. Father Kelly, D.D., who is leaving Opunako to take over the editorship of the Tablet, was farewclled on Friday evening at a public social in the Opunakc Town Hall and presented wit u purse of sovereigns. Miss Kathleen Carroll (Manaia), who has passed the senior national scholarship examination, has been awarded the Government subsidy, to be taken out at the Sacred Heart Convent, Wangauui. The amount will be £45 per annum. Mr. R. Hill-Johnson, who has been lay assistant to the Rev. G. W. Dent for some time, has resigned and has been appointed to relieve the Rev. H. Robson at Hokianga, as Mr. Robson is proceeding to camp. Mr. Hill-Johnson leaves Kltham at the end of this month.
It is officially announced tlmt the Rt. Hon. Sir Wm. Grey Ellison-Macartney, K.C.M.G. (Governor of Tasmania), succeeds Major-Goncral Sir Harry Barron, K.C.M.G., as Governor of Western Australia, and Mr. F. W. Newdegate succeeds Sir Wm. Macartney.—Press cable, Mr, Charles Seeling, the well-known forward of the All Blacks in 1005, who ia an old Wangauui boy, but has been playing for some time past for Wigan (Northern Union), has now joined the Artny. Seeling, who was one of the greatest importations made by Wigan, lias played brilliant football for years past, and captained his side very 'capably. He was granted three months' exemption by the Wigan tribunal, but the appeal fo Liverpool disallowed this. Tt is understood that he will join the N.Z.E.F. Tiie death occurred suddenly at Wellington on Friday evening of Mr. Francis Edward Pctherick, the we'l-known solicitor, from heart failure! The deceased, who had been under treatment for heart trouble, was able to go about his duties as usual, and his demise was quite unexpected. A widow and a grown-up family of two sons and a daughter survive him. The late Mr. Petherick was born at Johnsonville 53 vears ago. His father, the late Mr. Edward Petherick, died about a year ago.
