NEW PLYMOUTH SOCIAL NEWS RACES. Last Wednesday and Thursday, the Taraiinki .foe-key Club held their autumn meeting, and the weather, which had been rather boisterous and 'wet during the few days preceding, proved idea! for these two days. The meeting was exceptionally successful, there being visitors from Auckland, Wellington, Hawkc's Bay and the South Island. An excellent musical programme was rendered by the Citizens' Band, under Mr. F. W. McLeod (bandmaster), many of the items being repeated in response to an imperative encore. Great interest centred in the Taranaki Cup, to which was attached for the first time a valuable gold cup, and the winner proved to be Mr, J. Hawkins' Toa Terc. Mrs. 0. Samuel, the wife of the club's president, at the conclusion of the race presented Mr. Hawkins with the cup.

GOLDEN WEDDING. MR. AND MRSj C. H. SMTH. Mr. and Mrs. C. IT. Smith, of Lemon street, New Plymouth, celebrated their golden wedding at their residence on Wednesday. There was a gathering of about forty guests, including the Rev. and Mrs. W. Cannell and Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Boon. Mr. and Mrs. Smith were made the recipients of a large number of beautiful presents, and at the ceremony held to mark the occasion hearty felicitations were exchanged. Mr. and Mrs. Smith were married in the Methodist Church, Grimsby, on February 7, ISO 7, by the Rev, Jacob Wilson. They came to New Zealand in the ship Western Monarch, which left London on September 27, IS7-9, and arrived in Wellington on January 2, 18S). They settled in Cardiff, near Stratford, where they remained for IS years. Mr. and Mrs. Smith removed later to Mimi, and afterwards to Tfuirangi, and came to New Plymouth seven years ago. Both M.\ and Mrs. Smith, though well advanced in years, are enjoying good health, and the News joins with their friends in hoping they will have many more years of married life before them.
