PATRIOTIC WORK.

WOMEN'S PATRIOTIC LEAGUE. The annual' meeting of the Women's Patriotic League will be held in the. Soldiers' Club at 7.30 on Tuesday evening next. The annual report and balancesheet will be read. All interest-1 in the work of the Society are invited to attend. THE MART. The public are reminded that the usual weekly sale will be held at the Mart, Devon Street, to-day. The proceeds will be divided equally between the Women's Patriotic League and the Red Cross Society, so that all classes of soldiers, men in Egypt or on the way to the firing line, at the front, or in the hospitals, will benefit equally. MEN AT FRONT ENTERTAINED. A letter was received yesterday by the Mayoress (Mrs. C. H. Burgess), 'from Mr. A. W. Stuart, a field secretary of the Y.M.C.A., who describes what was done with £ls donated by the New Plymouth Women's Patriotic League and entrusted to him to administer. Seventy men were entertained in the Y.M.C.A hut on Christmas Eve, also on Christmai, Day. During Christmas Day, 6J blocks of currant cake, 35 dozen chocolate biscuits, 750 dolly cakes, C 4 jam sandwiches, and 800 cups of tea were distributed. The writer says: "I am sure, ladies, that if you could have seen the lads drinking your health in cups of good Knglish-made'tea, and heard the complimentary remarks, you would have felt highly satisfied with your gift."

KINDNESSES ACKNOWLEDGED. The committee in charge of the niart desire to thank Smart Bros, for donating a new sink for use at the mart, and Mr. Hopkinson for giving his time gratuitously to put it in. The Mayoress wishes to thank the Sash and Door Company for the gift of three polished seats for the upstairs rooms of the Soldiers' Club. The Red Post have also contributed weekly donations of 13s, 12s 3d, and 10s.
