The Tarauaki Stakes comes up for decision to-morrow. Reported that J. O'Shea will pilot .Toatere here. Hushriian is in great nick at present, so look out! The Rewipoto—Tree Lucerne double stands at a very short price. Paraoa, who was chasing "big money" at the holiday meets, should show up better in "the smalls" tliis week. The Auckland division includes lady Penury, Ring Lupin, Housewife, Pendoon, Roekfl'eld and Thrace. Lady Penury and Rockfield are in good nick. Alteration is getting through good work at present, and his party expect him to run well at the Tarauaki meeting. Dingle is top-weight in the Okato Hack Handicap with Ust., and has earned every ounce of it. Opinions difTcr greatly as to which will start favorite in the Waitani Hurdieo. Of the horses that raced at Hawera, Flying Camp appears to be the one most susceptible of improvement. Veto just finished outside a place at Hawera, and may do better next time the money comes in for her. Since the Tarauaki Cup of 187G some great weight-carrying records have been hoisted in the race. Lady Medallist won with 0.11, Convoy with' il.O, Battleaxe with 9.2, Paritutu with 9.0, and Opawa with 9.0. Opawa, Battleaxe, Paritutu, and L-idy Medallist each won the race twice. Auckland horses—Goldsize, Phosphorus and Self—have won the last three Taranaki Cups. If. Lady Penury wins to-day local horse-owners will give up the ghost. Already they are talking Analogue for th.: Wanganni Cup. He is an improving sort, as his Egmont running showed, and lie may give another taste of his quality at the local meeting.
