DUR DAIRY PRODUCE.
THE CHEESE SALE. The position as between factories and merchants who had made contracts for outputs of cheese prior tp the Government purchasing the cheese from the factories, and which was proving a stumbling block in the negotiations, has Hosv been settled, as the result of a conference between representatives of South Island factories, merchants, and the Govern-1 ment. It. was decided that the Government take over all the cheese from the factories that have sold, irrespective of v/aether they had sold for more or les.« than the Government price. The Government- will pay the agreed price of 9'/.J per 11), but in the case of those factories that had already made contracts the Government would deduct 1} per cent, commission, which will be paid to the merchants who had originally made the contract. This will prove entirely satisfactory to southern factories, which had sold i'l most cases at much below OJd, but jvith some of the North Island factories, who had sold' at lfld, the position is not quite bo satisfactory. Still they will meet "the position philosophically, recognising the peculiar conditions ai the present time. THE PRICE OF BUTTER. As the outcome of the conference between the Dairy Companies' Advisory Committee and the Board of Trade last week, it is 1 understood that an agreement was come to regarding the price of winter butter and the question of storag; charges. This will probably be gazetted [within a fortnight, and until it is gazetted it cannot be made public, but it. is understood that the price will be satis!factory.
