METEOROLOGICAL REPORT.

FOR PAST .MONTH. The weather report for January, as supplied by Mr. W. W. Smith, observer at the Pukckura Park meteorological station, shows that in the past month the highest maximum and minimum temperatures, both dry and wet, taken during the last 14 years were recorded. Excepting a lowering of 7 degrees of tlut.imperature for ;J0 hours on the Bth and lltli, the weather continued.oppressively sultry both day and night. Snow fell on -Mount Egmont on the Dili; hail fell on the lowlands on the 9th,- followed by strong south winds. Fresh warm winds were noted nt intervals on the 15th, 10th, 17th, and 18th. Since then the temperature rose daily until the 3lst. Magnificent-sunsets were observed on the 24th, 25th, 20th, and 27th, followed by fine displays of cirrus on the 2Bth, 29th,, and 30th, indicating approaching rain; cloudiness ranged from 1 oil four days to 7 on one day. There were 12 cloudless days. Thunder occurred on + he 2nd and 3rd. Following are the full records of the month: Maximum temperature 84J deg. on 30th, 07 deg. on !)th. Minimum temperature, CO deg. on Sth, 40 deg. on 19th and 20th. Maximum wet bulb, 07 deg. on five days, 01 deg. on 18th. Minimum wet bulb, 03 deg. on sth, 47 deg. on ,19th. Solar radiator, 109 deg. on 2nd, 143 deg. on 9th. Terrestrial radiator, 45 deg. on 19tb, 50 deg. on four days. Sunshine recorded, 13hr. 33min. on lf-th, 2hr. 13min. on 2nd; total 321 hr. lOmin. There were no sunless days. Rain fell on 11 days, 23 points on 14th, 1 point on lflth and 30th; total, o.Bin. This is the lowest rainfall for the corresponding month for 14 years. The wind blew from the north 1 day, ntrth-cast 0, south 14, south-east- 4, scuth-west 4, west 2 days. .
