(From Our Own Correspondent.) The ordinary meeting of the Harbor Board was held on Thursday afternoon. The members present were: Messrs J. P. iHughson (chairman), A. H. Moore, J. Macfio, R. Lambie, C. H. Hurst, C. Woolfcrd, B. Malcolm. The chairman moved votes of sympathy to Messrs Macfio and Woolford, who have both suffered bereavement since last meeting. The motion was carried in silence. The secretary of the Board (Mr. O'Erien) reported that Mr. Holmes (chief engineer) and Mr. Sharpe (of the Public Works Department, Stratford) had visited the site of the erosion of the Waiau river. A report from the Department is expected for next meeting. Brave & Co., of Port Adelaide, wrote offering to sell the Board the dredge London for a sum of £!)ooo.—Deceived. The Seaside Society wrote requesting the Board to facilitate the settlement of the lease to the Society of Sections 1, 2, and 4, Opunake beach.—The Board will communicate with the Minister of Marine asking that a, lease be granted under the Order-in-C'ouncil. The chairman suggested that it was the proper course to hold meetings in various parts of the district to give electors all information re the forthcoming loan proposals.-7-It was decided to hold meetings at Opunake, Oaonui, Piliama, and Tc Kiri. The dates will bo advertised in the News. The Presbyterian Sunday School picnic took place on Mrs. Pet'tigrew's farm (I'ihama) on Wednesday, and an enjoyable time was spent. The Seaside Society are now making all arrangements for the fete on the 14tii insl. is a full month for "local shows''—harvest, festivals, seaside fetes, horticultural show, pictures three nights a week, and a few marriages to balance things. The turnip crop in this district is about a record failure. , Visitors to the seaside here have been fairly numerous this season.
