TAKAXAKI AUTUMN MEETING. On Wednesday and Thursday next the larunaki Jockey Club's nutumn meeting takes place, and judging by the numerous entries fur the various events, good fields' sliould he the order of the gathering. Most of the horses that laced ut Ilawera this week ;ui' coming i';>, and in addition a strong Auckland division is expected to nnikc the trip. ?>jr. 00. Morse's weights appear to have given fsati it action, and acceptances, which c!o.-(; TO-XICIIT at 9 o'clock, should be very numerous. Air. C. O'Con|nor wiil do the starting,, and Mi' \Y 11. Ilartgill will occupy the judge's hex The course is in (hie order, and 1 here should be interesting racing here next week. Already a large number of >'i.--itor;; lnive arrived in town TURF TOPICS, (By "Moturoa.") | Taranaki acceptances to-night. Jaranaki Cup on Wednesday next. There will be racing at Rieearton, uif.borne, and Taumanmui to-day. 'I. 11. Lowry scooped the pool at liawera, his trio running four firsts and a second.

Combustion was backed Ijy his party each day at Egmont, but he'isn't worth feeding.

Tiio hard ground was all against Biiogne on Wednesday, and the" next uay he looked very jaded when saddled up fur the Hawont Stakes.

Load pencils, :id each," was a notice near the correct card seller at Hawera. A good idea, too.

Biplane threatens to start a very hot order in the Middle Park Plate at Riocarton to-day.

Tcle-a-Tete came in for a splendid reception when she returned to the bird cage on Thursday after winning the \ miniate Handicap with !).U It was a great effort, and Taranaki sportsmen were fortunate to have an opportunit* of seeing such a great mare at the top of her form.

Gentlemen riders in Taranaki appear t> be getting steadily worse. The riding on Thursday was shocking, and if a professional handed a race away like the Farmers' Plate was done he would be lynched! ,

As anticipated, Egypt won the Egmont Cup very nicely, but the solid pace set by Analogue was responsible for the time record put up. Analogue was by no means disgraced. He ran 2.34, and that time would win nine out of ten mile-and-a-lialf races run in the Dominion.

lhat only two horses should be saddled up for the Atkinson Memorial Stakes of 350 sovs. was remarkable. Oil the ground were horses that had been entered, and one that had been paid up for, and none of them wanted those 15 sovs. for third money. One sport reckoned that he would run the course foi fifteen bob!

The sky was overcast on Thursday but it was nothing to the scowls t the faces of the Ing(owood punters will', Cora Ora failed to Some of them were round at the pay-out windows totting up the dividend, too! -

With the exception of Record the hnrdlers seen out at Ilawcra weren't worth £IOO a dozen. Flying Camp's r'der lost .whatever chance he had by rushing to'the front too far from home. There was little merit in Camp Guard's performance, iind Blue Thread was only a fourth rater. ''Cocky'' hud a comfortable ride on Royal Patron. "Tommy" Long and his long string of punters backed Interlude each day, but she was not quite class enough. ' She's ir-ore than useful, ami tlie astute "Tommy" won't be long in placing her to advantage.

Wonder why they ran Tree Lucerne in \tlie Eginont Stakes on Wednesday! With weight-for-age he had no chance at all, and if somebody hoped for a rousing dividend in the handicap sprint on tlie second day they just missed it. Caretaker Alf. Morse had the tracks and lawns in fine order. "Alf" is a happy-looking young fellow now that he has got more than a course to take care of!

The finish between Bimetcr and EstIraul in the Eginont Stakes was one of the ."plums" of the meeting. The pair raced neck mid neck from the distance and Deeley just seemed to ''lift" the black fellow's head in frotit in the last stride.

Master Lupin's connections were prepared to see the bay gelding beat Analogue on Thursday, and put in on their noddy hot and strong. Master Lupin is reported to have run a very smart ten fiirlongs before leaving home, but Analogue had run the distance smarter. Alter a long string of defeats the very moderate Pergola managed to win the Maiden Scurry practically from end to end. Bell never said stop when he rounded the home turn, and the mare struggled on just long enough to win from Westelia, who ran out very wide in the straight. Keep Westelia ill your head for a good sprint shortly.

s May Morn was started twice on the second day, but she is still bad at the br.rrior, and in a big field has "no earthlv."

"Hurt" Gardiner appears to have "tamed" the erratic Ilaorengawe. He v/as fairly quiet at the barrier this week, but never Haltered his backers.

Carmcl Arch did not begin well in the Scurry, but the big fellow put in ft great run in the straight. Next time out he will get closer than third.

. Ilinetoa sweated a lot on Thursday, iind was well back when the Scurry field spread out. She made a big bid below the distance, but was cased when pursuit -looked hopeless. Dingle was just "topped off" in a seven furlongs race on Wednesday, and next day paid a surprisingly goo., price in the Inalia Hack Handicap, run o\er six. Some owners arc lucky, aren't they ?

J. (VSlica, 011 Zetes, upset the liot favorite Sunny Climes very hadly in the concluding event. O'Shea "took his hook 1 ' along the buck, and although the Ttighdon nag made up a lot of ground in the Inst half-mile, Zetos still held the ndvantage at (lie winning post. That's where horsemanship tells. • There were foiikt very rough "quads'' in the Maiden Scurry. Deelev and several other joekstevs held their' heads
