The National Union of Women's Societies entertained Mr. Masscy and Sir Joseph Ward. The speaker?, who included Mrs. Faiwcett nnd Lady Vrances Balfour, eulogised the work done by New Zofhind women during the war, and particularly the n-owmont for (he preservation of infant life in New Zetland, which led the world in this respect, the death-rale in England being IJI per 1000, Germany 140 pjr I MM, and' New Zealand SI. Sir Joseph Ward smM that the movement in New Zealaand was initiated by the women of Dunedin, wider Dr. Truhy King's guidance. The Pluuket nurses had also done valuable work. It seemed almost certain that the women of Britain had done such excellent work in freeing the men for the firing line that it would be impossible to resist extending the franchise to them after the war. Mr. Masscy urged I le women to support the country by generous subscriptions to the vVar Loan.
