-, ILLICIT GOLD DEALING. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Diuiedin, Last Night. In the Warden's Court this morning, Hans Olsen was charged that, not b;ing the holder of a gold dealers license, he sold lOoz. ladwt. of gold to Frank Eaton Pollett for £3l 10s. Pollett was also .charged that not being tlie holder of a gold dealer's license, he bought gold from Olsen, For the prosecution, it was stated that Olsen, who was dredgemaster for the Manhurika Company, came to Dunedin and sold the gold to Pollett, who is a jeweller. The Magistrate convicted Olsen and sentenced him to six months' imprisonment. Pollett was fined £IOO and costs. SEDITIOUS UTTERANCESChristchurch, Jan. 29. v Tetor Seott Ramsay, president of the Anti-Conscription League, - who was drawn in the first ballot, was arrestee yesterday and charged in' court to-day with seditious utterance. He pleade»l not guilty and asked for a remand until Thursday on bail, and that he be trjed by jury." The Court granted the rem«n.! till .Friday, refused bail, and said it lad no jurisdiction as to trial by jury.
UNIVERSITY SENATE CHANGE. ' - Auckland, Jan. 2i) The meeting of the University Senate has concluded. The. statutes were formally completed, the following to come into operation this year:— The new coin-re for Bachelor in Agriculture, changes in biology, medical travelling scholarships, the degree of B-"di-rlor of Music, ibe diploma in journalism and doctorates in literature and science. Hereafter supplementary examinations in accountancy will be held in March The Senate will meet in Wellington iv. April to consider the English examiners' reports for .honors degrees \nd scholarships. i The ne.vt-annual conference will be held in Dunedin in January, 1918.
