In connection with Mr. and Mrs. Carroll's departure from Hawera, a few of Mrs. Carroll's personal friends visited her as a surprise party on Saturday (says the Star). Tea was served on the lawn, and Miss P. Yorko asked Mrs. Carroll to accept a lady's handbag as a small token of the esteem in which she was held, and at the same time wished her the best of luck in her new litme.

Mr. and Mrs. H. Carrol, who have been residents of Hawera for twentyone years, were, reports the Star, entertained at a social last evening by (ho members of the Hawera railway staff, previous to their departure fur I'rankton Junction. There was a large attendance of all branches of the service, while mwiy other personal friends of the guests were present. During the evening Mr. 4. Thompson, of the clerical staff, presented Mr. and Mrs. Carroll with a beautiful silver tea service..
