CHINA AND JAPAN.
CHENG CHIATItING DISPUTE SETTLED. Received 28, 5.5 p.m. Pekin, January 27. The Cheng Ohiatung dispute (reference to which was cabled on September 12} lias been finally settled. ' China agrees to Chinoso tffficials apologising, and to compensate the Japanese victims. The Japanese troops will quit Chen Cliiatung when the terms are fulfilled. Other disputes are still unsettled. China refuses to allow Japan to appoint a military instructor to the Chinese Military Academy,' and refuses to recognise Japanese police in South Manchuria and East Mongolia. (The eablo referred to above stated that China had replied to the Japanese Note regarding Chen Chiathng. The contents were not disclosed, but it was believed that Ja>pan was dissatisfied).
