Amongst the successful competitor? .it ihf recent shooting meeting at \Vang:iiHii was cadet V. Rogers, Pembroke Road. Our young shot frequently got into the prize money, but lost the championship to Cadet \V. Shnrdlow, Wanaanui, the latter heading Rogers by one point. Overheard in a railway carriage: "Say, Bill, I wonder if the l!)th con t.rigent has arrived vet. Do you know anything good at Hawera?" All in one. brently Tim war to some has become chronic, and is dismissed as somethif.' t!iat must be tolerated, like a birthday tic,i but the races still come first. On the Stratford railway platform a mother and her three small children iiwaited the coming of a policeman. As the "man in blue" was passing, the mother erclainied: "There you are. sunny; there's a real live policeman. 11-c- same as you see in picture-books/' The constable blushed like a IC-vear-old maiden, and the youngsters from th.s 'way-backs'' moved on satisfied that they had seen one of the "bogeys of boyhood"—a constable. Some years back the friendly socictie? throughout Taianaki formed an Hospital Association, whereby financial mcK<ters of any conrt cr lodge, by payment of a small contribution quarterly, secured hospital attention besides sick pay. The value of the Association in this respect is shown by a statement laid before delegates ct the quarterly meeting held here a few days back. Accounts wore placed before the meeting aggravating £(i8o, the chief amounts boiiM; New Plymouth £430, Hawera £10;'), Stratford £GO, Patea £53. We all wish to possess nothing but t'ho best. Sometimes we -are successful, but frequently disappointed. There is no ' disappointment awaiting the purchaser of goods at C. E. James' warehouse. Just note the sterling value offering in- Doulton ware.®
