Dr. Written™, of Christeliuhch. ftn« late of Ilmveva, died «t Christehureh siu'iiionly on Saturday. A feature of the ceremony in connoe tion with the opening of the new band rotunda- at the East Knd Reserve last evening was the presentation' to the bandmaster (Mr. F. W. 0, McLeod) of a silver-mounted baton. The Majx>r (Mr, C. 11. Burgess) handed Air. McLeod the gift on behalf of the, East End Committee. Mr, Burgess eulogised Mr, Mcleod's musical nnd organising abilities and said lie had revived the band from a moribund condition to tho statu? of an institution worthy of the town. Mr. McLeod returned thinks, for tf*s gilt.
