FLOODS ON EAST COAST, By Telegraph.—Presa Association. Gisborne, Jan. 24. The body of Edgar Arnold Lewis, 20, who was washed away in the flood at Tokomaru Bay, was found yesterday. Wilkins' wool-scouring plant at- Waim«i was completely washed away by the flood, also the approaches to Mangahahawini bridge, vrhklh had been recently restored after the previous flood. Waipiro Bay reports that 17 inclie? of rain fell in 24 hours on tlie day of the storm.
SEDITION CHARGES. | Christdiurch, Jan. 21. E. R. Williams, who was charged on remand with a seditious speech, said lie would oppose conscription as long as lie bad a tongue m Ms head. He was an internationalist, opposed to war, and would ahvays fight against it. Mr. T. A. B Bailey, S.M., said tlie defence was clever, but the speech came under the Regulations. He would sentence Williams to twelve months' imprisonment. A WANGANUI CASE. Wangamii, Jan. 24. In the Magistrate's Court to-day, George Marvin was sentenced to one month's imprisonment for seditious utterance.
