Superintendent O'Donovan's adva..celr.ent to the position of Commissioner of Police has caused a vacancy on the Public Service Superannuation Board, for which the Otago police have nominated Superintendent 'Wright.

A very old and highly-respected resident of Feihling, Mr Walter Ambrose Lucas Bailey', died at his residence last week. The deceased gentleman \v;t<; born in Tasmania in 1843 After a vn ried life in the gold mining and sawmilling industries he came to the Rangitikei district in IB7fi and started in the timber business with his brother, Tn 18H2 the firm removed'to Feilding, wbiwas tbil centre of their largo timber :> tivities for some years. Mr. Bailey too.\a prominent part in civic, affairs in Feilding and at one time occupied the Mayoral chair. He leaves a grown-up family of two sons and three daughters.
