| THE POSITION AT WAITARA. Mr. K. Masters (chairman), Kev. A. B. Olmppell and ..Mr. S. 6. Smith, members of the Board of Education, accompanied by Mr. A. Gray, Director of Education under the Board, W. G. Reid, secretary of the School Committees' Association, and Mr. P. S. White, a member of the executive of the Association, visited Waitara 011 Monday night to discuss with the local School Committee mailers relative to manual education of the Waitara. children. All the members of the committee were present, with the exception of the chairman (Mr. Wakelcy), who was absent through illhealth. Mr. S. (J. Smith, chairman of the School Committees' Association, was elected chairman. A complete statement of the Waitara Committee's objection to the children travelling to New J?lymouth for manual education was given, and members of the Board expressed their sympathy. Eventually a proposal was approved, as submitted by Mr. Gray, to the effect that a building be erected in the Waitara school grounds suitable for manual and technical education, and it was decided to call a public meeting on Monday at Waitara to discuss the matter and enlist public sympathy, with the object of obtaining local contributions, which will carry a Government subsidy.
