MILITARY APPEALS.
AWAKINO APPEALS. A MAN WITH A GREAT HEART.
At the Hamilton sitting of the Auck land Military Appeal Board, E. A. Payntcr, sheep-fniimer, of Awakino, appealed | on tho grounds of undue 'hardship. Ilej was holding 1000 acres of very rougli country, and it was impossible to get a man to look after it. Appellant gave the board a detailed account j>i liis responsibilities, which moved a member to remark: "A man with a great heart." The board considered tlie case one to which the new regulations would apply, but as there wave not then to hand the appeal was adjourned till to-day. Sydney Herbert Lett, shepherd, of Awakino, appealed on tho grounds ot public interest and undue hardship, as ho was interested in a property which could not he worked without a skilled shepherd. Appellant, with another man i/wlio had enlisted and might be called up at any time, was engaged on 50011 acres, all the other men having left for the front. J. K. C. Harrison, of liar-rii-on Bros., lodged an appeal on behalf of Lett, and stated that it had been their aim to reduce labor to the absolute minimum. The appeal was adjourned r or six months.
