CONTINUING BANK NOTES AS LEGAL TENDER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington,, January IS, Bank notes have been gazetted- as legal tender for a further period up to June 30 next. ' PRICE OF -MILK FIXED, Wellington, January IS. An Ordor-in-Counci!, gazetted to-night, fixes the wholesale price of milk tor distribution in Wellington city and suburbs at per gallon. The Mnoriland Worker Company pleaded guilty, before Mr. McCarthy, S.M., to-day. to publishing two Buries of anti-conscription pamphlets lufi July and August, wit'.ioiyti indicating the names and place; of abode of its employers. Sir. O'Rogan, for the defence, said the case was due to pure oversight. The company was fined the minimum amount of £5 on each charge and costs. The firm of Touman, Garratt, and Barker was fined £5 and costs on a charge of printing a, manifesto in reference to the repeal of the Military Service Act, and neglecting to print or write on a copy thereof tin name and place of abode of -their employer. Defendants did the work for tin Maoriland Worker, and used that paper': imprint instead of their own. SEDITION CASES.' ' ;'*' ChristchurclvJan. 19. In the Magistrate's Court, Hubert Armstrong was sentenced to twelve months.' imprisonment for seditious ut- ! terancet. Mr. Russell states that "* the calling up of the second line reserves under,the Military Service Act is within nieasurablo distance, it har boon decided that, so far ar applications ior passports and permits by men belonging to that division, are concerned, the administration would he considerably tightened in future. The mere fact that-a member of the Second Division desired to leave New Zealand fpr business purposes would not be considered sufficient justification for hie departure, and, as i. the ease of the First Division, applications for a passport will only be considered where the circumstances are of an exceptoinal nature.
