UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS.
UXXATURALTSED STUDENTS DEBARRED. t By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, January 18. After a long discussion by the University Senate to-day ot Professor Segars motion, "That only British subjects shall be eligible for University and other scholarships," the Senate' adopted an amendment put forward by T)r Marshall, "That all .tudents who having had the opportunity of being naturalised have refused to lie naturalised, or who have lefused U render such services to the State a; other subject: render should not be capable oi *btaining scholarship..'' This was carried on the voices after the original motion had been lost by 10 votes to six. An amendment to the original motion, put forward by Professor Hunter, was also defeated. fhU was as follows: '•That it is unwise for the* University to bind itself t exclude from the benefit? of University schoinisbips all persons other than.British subjects.
