SOLDIERS IN LONDON.
AID FOR NEW ZEALANDERS. VISITS TO HOSPITALS. ATTENTION TO LEAVE MEN. Some particulars of the work of the New Zealand War Contingent Association in London are given* in a letter that has been received by a resident of Auckland from Mr. R. H. Nolan, sc;evetary of the association. Extracts fiom the letter were read by Mr. A. 0. Lunn at a meetins of the Executive Committee of the Auckland Patriotic Association.
"The New i Zealand War Contingent Association," says Mr. Nolan, "constantly entertains New Zealand soldiers at theatres and afternoon teas. Every New Zealander in Great Britain who is in any hospital is visited bv one of our official visitors within 24 hours after we are advised of their admittance, and. we are supposed to be informed forthwith. That in itself is a grand organisation. From choice we get our own country peopletf" possible, but if there are none in the locality we select, the leading people in that, district*-. Their duty is to attend to their wants, provide comforts, etc.. and report the condiiton of the patient weekly.''
Mr. Nolan states that from 200 to 000 men daily pass through his hands. In sneaking of the New Zealand Soldiers' Club in London, he says:—"lt is 100 days since the club was opened, and W" have provided beds for 17.487 soldiers. . . . All leave trains from France are met by some of my committee, and our men are brought here, where they register their packs and themselves. Then they get n good hot hath and clean underclothes. shirts, socks, etc.. are given to them. At whatever hour of the night they arrive they can get a hot meal in the canteen, -which is open night and day. They arc waited upon bv ladies, who are voluntary workers. |Everything is done on this side of the world that is posible to da for our boys, and to make them feel that they have a home away from home."
