THE PRICE OF PIGS.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—Can you explain the difference in the price paid for fat pigs in Tara« nill;i with that of otlie. centres? In the Commercial'.' column of the Daily News of January 13, 1917, appears the following quotations:— Addington. Baeoiiers, £4 12i to £5 3s, light baconers, £3 His to i'J 4. (price pel lb U%d); porkers, price per lb., T/od tc B'/ a d. Auckland; Ilcavj baconers, £3 i4s to 1 £4 10s; others, £2 l{fc to £2 13s. Ilawera: J3aconer», 50s. Tlie present price offering ia faxanaki for bacon pigs is .Id. per lb., maximum weight 1501b., so if the pig happens to weigh 1001b. you mako the buyer a pre' sent of 101b of pork.-r-I am, etc., PUZZLED. P'S.—You cannot !.uy your porlf or bacon off the retailer any ekeapei in' Taranaki. [Tlu explanation will probably be competition on the open market, and the law of supply and demand, as agniiist accepting offers at fixed rates. -IvJ.]
