TARANAKI HOSPITAL BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. flio Taranaki Hospital Board met yesterday. Mr. P. C. Bollringer presided, and others present were: Mrs. E. Dockrill, A. E. Sykes, E; Maxwell, .T. R. Hill, 0. V. Tate, D. H. MaeDonald.

SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT. Dr. E. A. Walker, superintendent of the New Plymouth Hospital, reported that during December 80 patients were admitted to the hospital, and Dfi wore ; discharged. Four died, and OS remained in the institution at the end of the month. The daily average was 75,7 During the month, added the superintendent, the work in the women's ward had been light, while in the men's ward it had. been continuous and heavy. The annexe contained two patients, and the isolation block was closed for a week. The latter was again open with two eases of diphtheria and one of scarlet fever.

DISTRICT NURSE'S REPORT. Miss Elliott, district nurse at Opunake, reported having attended 17 Euro pcans and two Maoris, and had visited various Maroi pas. The chairman described the report as a very good pne indeed, and showed that the appointment of a district nurse at Opunake was well justified. It was mentioned that Dr. I'arron, of Opunake, was leaving for the front, and that? Drs. Milroy and Stent had been caught in the ballot

OLD PEOPLE'S HOME. The matron of the Old People's Home Mrs. A. Bayley, reported that the:-' were four admission and two departures. Everything *had progressed favorably in the Home, and the discipline was excellent.

HEALTH INSPECTOR'S REPORI. Mr. A. H. .Kendall, Health Inspector, reported that seven cases of infectious diseases were notified in the district, in December, being two cases of scarlet fever, four of diphtheria, and one of phthises The scarlet fever was in New Plymouth and Piliama and there were two cases of diphtheria at New Plymouth and two at Waitara. while the case of phthises from Rahotu. All posible precautions were being taken in all • cases. During the mouth the inspector visited Inglcwood, Waitara, Okato Rahotu, Pihama, and Opunake. The house committee was deputed to cor.sider correspondence received in conuection with the. construction of the proposed new nurses' home at the hospital. Necessary steps will be taken to jeeure a district nurse at,Uruti, to succeed Nurse Holdaworth, resigned. Accounts amounting to £S2o 0? Id were passed for payment
