SHORTAGE OF MOTORMEN.
DEPUTATION'S TO MINISTER. By Telegraph.—Prew Association. Wellington, January 10 Representatives of various tramway undertakings conferred with the Minister of Public Works, pointing out the shortage of motormen owing to the- war and suggesting the suspension, unrivg the war, of that portion of the/ Tramways Act, 1010, relating to motorincn's qualifications, "so as to enable conductors to sit for examination as v.iotoriu.m after, less than twelve months' sernee; also that the period of training be reduced from twenty-one days to twelve. The Minister nromisud to piace the matter, before Cabinet.
The tramway employees' representatives also conferred with the Minister on the subject of the shortage, the general opinion being that there was nc shortaTC, except in one'centre. The Minister promised to place certain suggestions of the rnen before Cabinet, i
