ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
A NEW ARRIVAL DROWNED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Napier, Last Night. Ernest Bartlc. an Englishman, aged 24, a recent arrival in the Dominion, was drowned off the Marine Parade to day. He could not swim, and hi? brother, aged 13, was unable to go to his assistance. The body was recovered in 45 minutes, and'attempts at resuscitation were persisted in for two hours, but proved unsuccessful.
CYCLIST COLLIDES WITH BRIDGE. I Palmerston X., Last Night. Thomas Smith, while journeying from fnlmorston to Afhhnrst for the butchers' picnic this morning, on a motoi oyolo with side car attached, in endeavoring to avoid some cattle at Whakaronga crashed into Stoney Creek Dridge. He was rendered unconscious, and lies 111 the hospital in a critical condition.^
