DISTRICT NEWS.
EffAXGA—PUKENGAHU. (From Our Own Correspondent.) It is v.-ith deep regret I have to report the death of Mrs. Byres, the wife of our local creamery manager. She passed peacefully away at the Stratford hospital 011 Friday last, and was laid to rest in the Stratford cemetery on Sunday afternoon,, the- sad rites being impressively rendered bv the Rev. Fa thai Maples To the bereaved husband and the five motherless children all the peoplo in our district extend heartfelt sympathy.
With hot sunshine, interspersed with levivifying showers of rain, the whole countryside still presents an attractive appearance. Consequently all stock arc looking well, and the iniik yield is still showing' a good average, Tlifc hay cropi are, now in stack and the oat crops in process of being harvested, while the young crops for autumn and winter feed {Jsve promise of being exceptionally good.
Stock appears to bo still rising in price, calves espefialW, as there are several buyers, from Te luiiti arid Waikato pcom-ing the district for good .veiiners to ship north. With a ruling price of about C 4 for weaners, and butter-fat at ]!> d and over, the horned goddess of Taranaki is keeping her end up this year.
