'ATTEMPTED ESCAPE OVER BORDER Amsterdam, Jan. 11. ' The Governor-General of Belgium, in a decree, states that a hundred Belgians, some of them armed, attempted to cross the Dutch frontier by force. ! Thirty-seven were arrested and courtmartialled. Thirty were sentenced Jfo" death, and four youths to fifteen years' imprisonment. The Governor-GeneraJ, in commuting the death sentence to penal servitude for life, because* the offenders had not ralised the gravity of the offence, xwarned the Belgians that no mercy would be shown in cases of repetition of the offence.
