OBITUARY.
'MB. HARRY STOCKER. Sincere and general regret was fck in Xow Plymouth yesterday when it beeume known that Mr. Harry Stockei, of tlio firm of Messrs. Stacker and Humphries, had passed away. The cml came suddenly, Mr. Stacker having, been ill only a few days. He contracted (i chill last on Saturday he found himself too unwell to attend to his business. He went home, but is his condition did not improve, he was removed to a private hospital Mr Stacker rapidly grew worse, and he c'ied at an early hour yest?rdayji'Oi'ning. ' The late Mr Stacker, who wa; born at Invercaj'gill 43 ye&n ago, was the eldest son of the Ven. Archdeacon Stacker, of Christchurch. The funeral will take place this afternoon. A short service ivill be held in St. Mary's Church, and the cortege will leave the church at 1 o'clock for the Te Henui Cemeterv.
MR. JOH'X RAYVL:NGS.
The death occurred yesterday morning of Mr. John Rawlings, at the go of 85 \"<\ii'.-. lie was born in London, and was educated at the East Islington Commercial School. It was intended that he should follow his father's profession,, that oi an architect. .Mi. Rawlings took unkindly to this occupation, and he ran away to sea in a South Sea whaler. In 1854 'he came to New Zealand as a steward of the ship Lady Kbringtbn, and left her to'atart farming in Nelson, where he also carried on business as a timber merchant. Sixteen years later he sold out and went to Wiuiganui, where lie >vaa proprietor of the St. John's Hotel . He was afterwards engaged in sheep-farming at Woodlands, Wangamii, for about ten years, He then removed to New Plymouth, and soon afterwards 'he began 'farming at Omatii. Mr. Hawlings was twice married, and he leaves a widow and a young child, besides a grown-up daughter b> his first wife.
