HIGH COMMISSIONER'S MARKET REPORT. The Jeparlment of Agriculture, Industries and Commerce lias received tho following cablegram, dated London, January li, 1917, from the High Commissioner of New Zealand. (Note.—Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot: Meat—All descriptions of frozen meat continue in good demand owing to decreasing supplies of Home-killed mutton and beef, together with the small supplies of New Zealand mutton and lamb available fot the general public. New Zealand uitton, pei lb, £%d; ewe mutton, 8d; Argentine mutton, B%d to 9d; New Zealand lamb, 9y 2 d; Australian lamb, 9>/ 2 d; Argentine lamb, 9%d New Zealand beef: There are no supplies available. chilled beef: Hinds 10y 4 d, fore, 9d GIF sales have been made at the following prices: American frozen ox beef, hinds 9d, fores 7d Butter.—The market has a downward tendency. Prices are easier. Danish, pei cwt. 216s to 2205; Dutch per cwt., 200s to 210s; Australian, salted 2Q2s to 208s, unsalted 206s tc 210s; New Zealand (the market is a shade weaker) 206s *. 210s, unsalted 210? to 13145; Argentine, salted 2003 to 2025, unsalted 204s to 20Ss; American, cream- ' ery, 192s to 1945. . Estimated Canadian and States cheese stocks: London, Liverpool and Bristol, 17'2;000 boxes, against 101,000 nt the same time last, year; estimated New 'Zealand cheese stocks, London and Bristol, 1000 crates, against 14,000 at the same time last year.

Hemp—New Zealand: It is reported that little or none is being offered. The market is firm owing to reduced supplies. Quotations are nominal. Goodfair New Zealand hemp, per ton, £GO; fair, £SB; January-March shipment, good-fair New Zealand £SO, fair £57; Government-graded fair Manila, £SO; coarse, £B7 10s. The output of hemp at ManllaSor the week ended last Saturday was 20,000 bales. Wheat—There is a firm market, with a good demand. Australian afloat, 83s: New Zealand, .60s. ■Oats—The market remains firm. New Zealand, 50s.

Newton King reports:—As is usual at holiday time, all sales during the week have been small, with prices all through a shads easiar, with the exception of good-conditioned cows, the prices for thoii class being well maintained.
