DISTRICT NEWS.

TIKORANGI. (From On: Own Correspondent.) The tountrty around liuirangi and Tikorangi is looking well at considering the spell of dry \\cathpr. Apparently there will lie no" dearth of winter feed, as some fine, hay starts are to be seen throughout the district, the hay having; been harvested in good condition. Here and there are, aome paddocks that have just been cut but the rain of Tuesday, followed oy yesterday's fine weather, will have done very little harm, whilst it will have proved of great benefit to turnip and other crops. Though the bulk of the young men from these district: have gone to the front, the farmers overcame the scarcity of labor difficulty in connection with the saving bt the'hay by combining to assist each other, the paddocks being cut and harvested in rotation. That the recent spell of dry weather has had its effect on the milk .supply i'; evidenced by the diminution in tlie output of dairy factories. TiUoranj-i is now turning out iti boxe. daily, as against 33 in the 'flush of the season. The welcome fall of rain, though of too brief duration, should have an appreciable effect. The tests this year, though fairly high, are not quite up to those of last year. ■Several improvements are bei:i; effected at the Tikorangi factory which is still tinder the capable.nianag.niicTit of Mr. Simpson. A 2o h.p. Dniler b benv; installed to replace the 12 h.p. boiler now in use, and the company is installing a smaller Topliss churn of ToOlba capacity, for use when the supply of cream is small.
