Summer Meeting the previous week will have further opportunities to pick up good stakes at New Plymouth. The Taranaki Cup, run over a mile and a quarter, carries with it a Cup valued at :VJ guineas and 500 sovs. in 1 specie. The Third Taranaki Stakes, which "losed with 130 entries, is worth 50t) sovs., and other good stakes are: 4'aul Memorial Handicap, of '2.")0 sovs., nine furlongs; Flying Handicap, . "200 sovs., six furlongs; Stewards' Handicap, '.50 sovs., five furlongs; and Grandstand Handicap, of 150 sovs., live furlongs. Tlie two Hack Hurdle Races are well endowed with 150 sovs. and 135 sovs. respectively, and no race on the programme is of less than 100 sovs. Entries for all handicap events, and for the Moturoa Electric Hack and Urenui Electric Hack, close to-morrow (Friday) evening, at 9 o'clock. Messrs. Walsh and Quarterman had a good innings at the Westland meeting with Lady Middleton and Tyson. On the (irst day both won races, while on Tuesday Lady Middleton .landed a double, and Tyson ran a second and a third. The dividends were very satisfactory, and the owners threw in ior a good win. The horses will "do" the Nelson meeting before returning home.
