A STUBBORN BATTLE. FIERCE ENEMY ATTACKS. GALLANTRY OF RUSSIANS. GREAT ENEMY LOSSES. London, .Tan. !>. 'A Russian official report states: —We bayoneted many Austrians, and took prisoner the remainder of a reconnoitring party northward of Zolotvin, and repulsed five strong enemy attacks on the heights southward of Cliebonicaa River. We repelled three attacks northward of the Oiituz River. Three divisions, supported by thirty batteries, attacked and pressed us back southward of the mouth of the Buzeu. The enemy launched fierce attacks at Vakoroni, eastward of Braila, where there was a stubborn battle all day, with great enemy losses, but the enemy in the evening compelled us to withdraw to the other bank oi the Danube.

A German official wireless says: Russian advances in the Dorna Watra region failed with heavy losses. The Austro-Germans, in mountain fighting between the eastern frontier of Transylvania and the lov,-lauds of the Sereth, gained important territory'and several hundred prisoners. The Germans stormed and captured Slobizia and Rotesti, in the region of Rimni. The Aus-tro-Germans pierced the Russian bridgehead at Braila ayd captured Gurgeuti. At Romnaul there was violent house-to-house fighting, and we took MOO prisoners.
