DISTRICT NEWS.
KAHOTU. (From Our Own Correspondents). The farewell to Sergeant G. Dawson, Trooper B. Wright and Private C. Eaynor took place on Wednesday evening, a good number assembling. Mr. 0. Gibson presided Songs were sung by Messrs T. P. Hughson, jur., and Mr. Evans, vdso were in capital form. The following gentlemen s : )oke re the war and wished the soldicis good-luck, God speed and a safe return: Messrs. Featherstone, Wright and the chairman. The chairman asked hem to accept a small memento each from Kahotu people, and he hoped they would find them useful— Sergeant Dawson and Trooper Wright, pocket wallet, Private C. liaynor, a wristlet watch; and he was asked to accept a gift for his brother Arthur, who was not present. After supper the floor was cleared for dancing. We are pleased to hear that Mr. W. Hodson has his son home from the hospital where he has been some time. Mr. T. P. Hughson, jur, i 3 just off for a holiday to Auckland. The boy scouts, under Major Saiidford, passed through Kahotu on their return journey all looking well but rather hardened and sunburnt. It will be doubtful if their mothers will be able, to recognise them when they get home. Mr. Hughson, sen., met them and treated them to a jar of beer, cakes, etc., which the boys seemed to enjoy. A good downpour is badly needed. Turnip crops are suffering and cows are going down in milk very rapidly. Haymaking is in full swing.
WARE A. On Tuesday evening last in the Warea hall a farewell social was tendered to Privates C. Magon and D. Paton. who were home on their final leave before they returned, to camp. There ,was a large and representative gathering of the residents of the district and also from outside districts. Mr. S. Hale, in a. few well chosen remarks, said it gave him very great pleasure, on belialf of residents, to present Privates C. Magon and D. Paton with a wristlet watch respectively, and called on Misses Maude Jones and Lily Pennington to ,fasten the watches on the wrists of Privates C. Magon and' D. Paton respectively. The recipients suitably responded. After singing they were jolly good fellows, dancing was resumed, about 74 couples taking the floor. The ladies assisted with supper arrangements. Mr. Barnett. supplied the music, extras being played by Misses F. Corbett and T. Murphy, and Mr. R. Julian made an efficient M.C.
