The Department of Agriculture, Industries and commerce has received the following cablegram, dated London, December 22, from the High Commissioner, foi New Zealand. (Note: Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot):— Meat.—AH descriptions of frozen meat are in active demand, owing to short supplies of home-killed mutton and beef, as a result of railway communication being interrupted. Ilome-killed mutton, per lb, Is 2d; home-killed beef, Is Id; New Zealand' mutton ,B%d, ewe mutton Sd; Argentine mutton, heavy-weight B%d, light-weight lid; New Zealand lamb, fl'/;d; Australian lamb, O'/id; Argentine lamb, 9Jd; New Zealand beef, no supplies available. Argentine chilled beef, hinds lOyid, fores S%d; American pork, weighing 801b to 1001b, lOd. Butter —The market is quiet. Danish, per cwt,, "218s to 2205; Dutch, 210s; unsalted, 2125; Australian, 20Gs to 208s; unsalted, 20Ss to 2125; New Zealand, 210s to 2145, unsalted. 212s to 2145; Argentine, 201 a to 20Gs, unsalted 210s to 2125; American creamery, 192s to 1945. Cheese.—The market continues firm. There is little business doing. Canaidan, white and colored, per cwt,, 132s to 1345; English Cheddar, 13Gs to 140s; Dutch Cheddar, 128s to 1325. Ail cheese ex Turakina has been commandeered by the Imperial Government. Hemp—The market is very quiet. There is nothing doing on account of the holidays, but prices are well maintained. Wheat—The market remains Arm. Offerings are very small. Oats.—There is a firm market with a good demand. Wool.—Cannot give quotations during present condition of ilie market.
