ELTHAM.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Eltham, Jan. 5. The vital statistics for the Eltham district during the year just completed are as follow (the figures for the previous year are given in parentheses):— Births 135 (130), marriages 30 (33), deaths 22 (13). Eltham just now appear 3 to be suffering from a shortage of coal, owing to supplies not coming forward, but it is hoped that this may soon be remedied. On Thursday evening the Eltham Fire Brigade farewelled four mora of its members, who have been accepted for active service. Three of them—Troopers J. Zinsli, C. Parsons, and S. Collingwcod—were present, K. Malhieson being unavoidably absent. The chairman of the Patriotic Committee, Mr. T. B. Crump, presided, and after justice had been done to the light refreshments provided, a short toast list was discussed, interspersed with songs and recitations contributed by Mr. C. H. fiuckrridge and Firemen A. Burrows and Philpott, Fireman Narbery playing the accompaniment
The Eltham Brigade has sent twenty of its members to the front, truly a great record for a small brigade, and no less than five of these have made the grcnt sacrifice. At the Druids' Lodge on Wednesday night, Privates J. Zinsli, G. Zinsli, and M.
